A patient story is an individual's personal account of their healthcare experience as described in their own words. At its simplest, it is a conversation with a patient or someone close to them, such as a relative or carer, which is recorded and transcribed.

Talking about experiences can be helpful to patients and allow them to process the feelings that they have encountered.

When a story catches our attention and engages us, we are more likely to absorb the message and meaning within it than if the same message was presented in facts and figures. Sharing these stories enhances our understanding of the individual’s journey and can provide guidance to those who are new to wearing an artificial eye.
